the hardest goodbye

Earlier today we  had to say a very hard goodbye to CH/Fin CH Yardican Diamond Drop (maggie).
This is a very difficult time right now :-( Losing my best friend and companion.

Paw prints Left by you -
You no longer greet me,
As I walk through the door.
You're not there to make me smile,
To make me laugh anymore.
Life seems quiet without you,
You were far more than a pet.
You were a family member, a friend
. . . a loving soul I'll never forget.
It will take time to heal -
For the silence to go away.
I still listen for you,
And miss you every day.
You were such a great companion,
Constant, loyal and true.
My heart will always wear,
the pawprints left by you.

Cardigan Bay

I played golf at Porthmadog this week. Annika and Ditto had a great time showing off to many Welsh people who had never seen a Cardigan corgi and often didn't know of their existence. Annika did a book signing and Ditto sang! We then had a pilgrimage to Cardigan Bay and they loved it. There is obviously a tradition to kiss the sand - like kissing the Blarney Stone. Both had an amazing time, paddled, chased the tennis ball and paddled in the Bay. Here are some pictures of their trip. The members of Cardigan Golf Club have invited us there next year; I will do a golf demonstration, Annika will sign more books and Ditto will just show off and charm the people! Here are some pictures with the Welsh mountains in the background.

Puppies 7wks

Click photo to make larger

Good morning everyone - the Wildcards are 7 weeks old today. Yesterday we continued with the collar and lead training and all are happily trailing round with little leads attached. In a survey this morning when the decided to shout to go out at 6 a.m. I did a feeding survey and can report that for breakfast they preferred Tesco's sardines to Waitrose minced best beef - which should be a relief for new owners when they arrive with you.
All puppies have been prepared for showing by being taken one at a time over to the golf clubhouse/hotel and being introduced to the scariest men possible! They are definitely not afraid of anyone - that's the puppies, not the men golfers. Dianne's River Song loves the squeaky ball already and has already had a few game with Annika. Lottie continues to look more and more like Ditto every day and Maggie is a real adventurer. I have water all round the house and Maggie and River came face to face with a duck for the first time yesterday. Bandit is already practising to be a stud dog and has being practising on Beryl the two legged (not his fault) furry badger and Felicity the furry pheasant. Phoebe is the gang leader of the litter. They have a grass run with a wooden kennel and a big, felt kennel. The big felt kennel did have a large rosette attached - one I had for the General Election. Yesterday the gang of four started to fight over who would have the rosette. So they already have the message that rosettes are to be fought over at all costs.
Ditto has been a marvellous Mum and really attentive without being pushy parent

Ditto's Puppies 5 wks old

The Wildcard puppies are being whistle-trained (with some success) and collar trained (with a little squeaking) and learning the idea of playing ball with their great auntie Annika. Ditto continues to be a very attentive mum and is feeding them well. Puppies are feeding nicely on their tiny biscuits, some meat and fish specials and goats milk. They get lots of chance to run on the lawn and are beginning to follow Ditto back to the 2 blasts of the whistle. Photos show ears up because they are rushing towards the camera at great speed! Edward the cat is curious to see what the puppies are.

All playing outside in their run for much of the day and finding their way into their little kennel. They have all met various visitors to the hotel and golf club and each has had a trip to the clubhouse. It was nice of the Red Arrows to give them a special fly past to celebrate 5 weeks of life!

Ditto and her babies

Morning all - many of you will have heard about Ditto and the first litter of Wildcard Cardigan corgi puppies.

Ditto gave birth to five puppies on the 19th.
Four girls and a boy. Three arrived at 3 a.m. One is a complete Mini-Ditto and she surprised Ditto by appearing from beneath her tail at 8 a.m.
